Bab Al Marsa : restaurants in the port of Agadir, popular and friendly in their new livery
Here are some restaurants that are fun and interesting to visit during a stay in the Souss region. The port of Agadir includes a new building, shaped like a fish when viewed from above, called Bal Al Marsa, meaning "port gate" or "naval gate." Replacing small, makeshift establishments of questionable hygiene since the summer of 2026, Bab Al Marsa, in its new guise, houses several dozen shops, mainly restaurants but also, among other things, a fish market later on. This revamped open-air event aims to be popular and friendly, promising mouthwatering grilled meats!
From our riad, the restaurants of Bab Al Marsa are just over three-quarters of an hour away. Upon reaching the Port roundabout, drivers should take the Essaouira road back to the new complex and park in the designated parking area on the right.
An attraction within the framework of the Urban Development Program
The major transformation of Agadir's old fishing port is an attraction that falls within the now-famous Urban Development Program 2020-2024 was presented with the approval of King Mohammed VI. It was originally scheduled to be completed in 2023. Between moving the old shops to the foot of the Kasbah, building the new building and above all preparing the new way of managing the shops, not to mention the inevitable disputes arising from such changes, three years have passed.
Particular attention was paid to training. Selected by lottery by the municipality of Agadir from among the former operators, approximately 70 people participated in practical workshops covering hospitality, catering, and food safety. The objective: to ensure a professional, high-quality service that is "sustainable and meets international standards," especially given the accusations, some more substantiated than others, leveled against the operators of the former establishment regarding excessive prices. The challenge is set: the delicious meal you will enjoy in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere shouldn't break the bank.
Summer 2026 saw the opening of the first phase of Bab Al Marsa in its new design. Ultimately, the complex is expected to include 113 shops. It will feature not only new restaurants, but also a modern fish market and a reading area. The complex will no longer be limited to seafood, but will also offer traditional Moroccan cuisine, local products from the Souss region, as well as ice cream parlors, snack bars, and juice bars.
Whether or not it was a consequence of Bab Al Marsa's opening, the only restaurant located inside the fishing port, the excellent Yacht Cub, closed its doors permanently at the same time.
One in three hearts for restaurants in the port of Agadir, pending a more thorough testing. No alcohol is served, as the restaurants in the port of Agadir are very popular with locals.
