Madrague de la Marina: Mediterranean accent

Located in the Marina of Agadir, La Madrague has taken up residence in the southern part of the basin, which ensures it the sun from noon to evening. It takes a little over 50 minutes from the Jardin aux Etoiles(see Google Maps below). The city of Agadir is very large... Despite some past inconsistencies, this restaurant with a Mediterranean accent is one of the most interesting in the Berber city, if not quite simply the number one.

The terrace installed right on the water, or almost, is worth the experience in itself: the panorama over the marina is a magnificent setting, which invites you to come back. In a successful way, the room mixes modernity and objects of contemporary Moroccan craftsmanship.

A terrific card

No offense to some grumps, the card is great. And the products are extremely fresh. Some of them arrive once a week from Rungis. The pan-fried basquaise squid and Espelette pepper (110 dh) transports the palate to the nirvana of gastronomy. The pan-fried Casablanca veal chop, penne regate gratin or, recently, homemade mashed potatoes, herb juice, is very tasty (220 dh). A real moment of happiness!

The paella is simply exceptional, and we weigh our words. Strongly recommend. Excellent score also for the bouillabaisse!

For dessert, try the seasonal fruit gratin and its well-controlled sparkling sabayon (75 dh) or even the lemon mille-feuille. The floating islands turn out to be frighteningly delicious!

The problem at La Madrague was that regularity was not always guaranteed. During a relatively long visit, the pan-fried duck liver in a crust, small crunchy pastries, fig chutney, turned out to be rubbery (220 dh). If this trouble happens to you, ask for another dish. You'll get it right away, free of charge.

Pricejustified by the quality

Tripadvisor shows contrasting reactions. We lean very clearly on the side of positive opinions. The Belgian Mathieu Closset, the boss and inspiration of the dishes, officiates in the dining room. He was until recently accompanied byFranck Milome, who enchanted us when he ran the brasserie L'Assiette du marché on avenue Hassan II and who is now enjoying the heyday ofLegend, also located at the Marina, on the north pier, just opposite La Madrague.

At La Madrague, the prices are relatively high for Morocco, but quite lower than those of a restaurant of this level in Europe, and are perfectly justified since the quality is there. Recently introduced low-cost menus even help make this excellent table a friend of your wallet.

Friendliness of the Berber service

The map has been redesigned. Menus are offered at 140 dhs (13 euros) for two courses and at 180 dhs (16 euros) for three courses. The suggestions between 65 and 140 dhs are renewed every week.

The friendliness of the Berber (Amazigh) service, tested many times, leaves pleasant memories. On the other hand, the reception of the owner is sometimes somewhat moody. A course in facial physiognomy is recommended! Despite its promotional nature, the video that we publish at the bottom of the page summarizes the menu and the atmosphere of La Madrague well.

Three out of three hearts for La Madrague! All our last passages have proved to be particularly convincing on the plate side.

The table of Jacques and Bernadette Chirac

Anchor 1

In just over 50 minutes from the Jardin aux Etoiles. We recommend the express road and not the national road, which slows down your speed.

Anchor 3
For a long time, and already when he was President of the French Republic, Jacques Chirac spent the Easter and Christmas holidays inTaroudant, at the Gazelle d'Or, accompanied by his wife.

The declining health of the former head of state forced Bernadette Chirac to abandon the Roudanese habits of the couple. The Chiracs now spend these two holiday periods in Agadir, in order to be closer to the clinics in the capital of Souss, in the event of a glitch. The Gadiri Royal Palace now welcomes them.

In particular, they have their habits at La Madrague. They were there on April 17, 2014, when the photos below were taken, and have returned there several times since then.

Moroccans, and especially the people of the Souss Valley, are very attached to Jacques Chirac, whom they know to be a friend of the Kingdom and whose clear refusal to engage France in the Second Gulf War they have not forgotten. His popularity remained at its zenith.
