Hyper U supermarket arrives in Agadir

The Hyper U supermarket is coming to Agadir. Its opening was initially announced for the end of August 2025. It will finally take place on Tuesday 16 September. In Morocco, the first supermarket in this chain opened in April 2024 in Casablanca (see photo). The one in Agadir will be the second. However, smaller U stores are also operating in Casablanca, Rabat and Salé.

The Hyper U in Agadir, which is similar in size to a Super U in France, is currently being built next to the Kitea furniture store and one of the city's three McDonald's restaurants, near one of the entrances to the Grand Stade Adrar (see our map). From the newly named North-East Ring Road, it can be accessed via the roundabout east of the Grand Stade, which leads to the Akdital clinic.

Compared to Carrefour, Marjane and Asswak Assalam supermarkets (see photo), which are already established in Agadir, the U cooperative is known for offering lower prices. However, some highly critical reviews of the Casablanca supermarket cast doubt on this.

The fact remains that U stores are organised on a cooperative model, which in principle is more consumer-oriented than shareholder-oriented.
