Why Agadir is truly a tourist city

Why is the seaside resort of Agadir a tourist destination whose reputation extends far beyond the golden sands of its 8-kilometer-long beach ? Because, in February 2020, King Mohammed VI presided over the presentation ceremony of the Agadir Urban Development Program 2020-2024, which has since been superbly implemented and expanded. The result? The city's beauty has steadily increased, and the number of impressive projects has multiplied, with the public sector generating dynamism in the private sector. Tourism takes precedence, but the city's residents are not forgotten. An impressive number of sports fields, for example, have appeared in the neighborhoods. As the city's president, Aziz Akhannouch, who is also the head of government, explains, Agadir intends to be a city of sport, but also of culture. The website of your riad near Agadir is following this development very closely. He explains, for example, what to do in Agadir in five days.

Tourist attractions have appeared in large numbers, sometimes even before 2020. This is the case of the dolphin pool (our photo) called Dolphin World, located in the Anza district and which is very popular with children and their parents, at least those who do not prioritize animal protection.

They prefer the mini-safari organized in the Souss-Massa National Park, which allows you to admire gazelles, antelopes and ostriches up close, as part of a reasoned effort to repopulate these animals.

When the weather is hot, younger children can enjoy the slides and other water features at Atlantica Water Park in Imi Ouadar, north of Agadir. However, a new, more attractive and modern water park of this type has recently opened in the hills above Agadir. Starting in the summer of 2024, the Waterpark at Danialand amusement park (see video above) is attracting visitors with its high-quality facilities, despite relatively high prices.

Thrill-seekers of all ages will appreciate a corner of the Sahara 68 kilometers north of Agadir: the Tamri Timlalin sand dunes. There, you can enjoy quad biking while admiring the ocean just below. Breathtaking! The more adventurous can try their hand at sandboarding (see our photo). A real challenge!

In the evening, you have plenty of options! One of Agadir's trendiest clubs is Papagayo. This nightclub is located in the excellent Riu Tikida Beach Hotel. On a different note: if you're lucky, you might catch one of the opening nights at the intimate concert venue Jazzawiya. You're guaranteed a funky and unforgettable experience.

Our top pick is the Chems Ayour Arab and Berber folklore evening. Just fifteen minutes from your riad rental in Agadir, Le Jardin aux Etoiles, you'll be welcomed by horsemen and the Dekka Merrackchia and Gnawa troupes. This will be followed by a musical performance from a snake charmer and the traditional Berber bread called tafernout. A highlight: dinner in traditional Berber tents with folk entertainment around the tables. The evening concludes outdoors with a fantasia (a traditional equestrian display) featuring acrobats, fire-eaters, and even a belly dancer.

All these attractions that make Agadir a tourist city can ideally be enjoyed while relaxing, between excursions, in the greatest peace and quiet, at the Jardin aux Etoiles. The swimming pool (see photo), the immense garden, the areas dedicated to ping-pong and pétanque, and, as an option, Fatima's excellent cuisine will delight you.
